Presenter: Dr. Lennox McLendon

Overview Session I - Familiarity with the research on adult learner persistence is necessary if we are to plan actions in our programs to effectively support our learners. During this conversation Lennox will review pertinent research to lay our foundation. If you are unfamiliar with the research this session is a prerequisite for attending session two. If you have already attended a persistence study circle or workshop this session will refresh your familiarity with the research and introduce you to the perspective of Dr. Lennox McLendon. Readings in preparation for the conversation will be mailed/emailed to participants.

Bio: Dr. McLendon has taught ABE, ESOL, GED and adult high school in both North Carolina and Virginia. He has been a local adult education coordinator, state adult education staff member, and for twelve years, the Virginia state director of adult education. He has conducted adult learner persistence training with local teachers and program managers in at least sixteen states. As a result, he has accumulated a wealth of evidenced based strategies from your colleagues across the country that complements the strategies found in the research. He is currently the Executive Director of the National Adult Education Professional Development Consortium, Inc.
