Overview Session I - Managing an ESOL classroom with multiple levels of learners is one of the greatest challenges facing the ESOL instructor. The concept of learning-centers, long used in K-12, has proven highly successful for adult ESOL learners because it is an effective way to manage all the needs of the multi-level class. In this webinar, Robin Lovrien Schwarz will provide examples on the successful use of learning centers in adult ESOL classes and grounding of this approach in adult learning theory. Then she will take you through the basic steps to integrate a learning center approach for your multi-level class.

Bio: Ms. Schwarz has been a consultant and trainer in the field of learning difficulties in adult ESOL learners for over 20 years. She has a masters degree in Special Education and is currently a doctoral candidate at Lesley University in ESOL and learning difficulties. She has participated in numerous state and national initiatives on adult ESOL, presented at national conferences and has authored numerous articles and chapters in books. She is currently doing contract writing for National Institute for Literacy (NIFL) on adult English language learners (ELL's) with low or limited literacy skills. She is also contributing to a literature review for Bridges to Practice (the NIFL learning disabilities training program) on testing ELL's for learning disabilities.
