Overview: This webinar series is a breath of fresh spring air for your next steps thinking! It is our own Central MA “Stimulate Your Thinking” package! Our colleagues from the states of Washington, Texas and Rhode Island will share their stories of how they are making effective transitions to next steps happen for adult learners. Learn the possibilities of using mentoring support, building a partnership and integrating training and academics!

Details: Live from Washington! I-BEST (Integrated ABE and Skills Training) is an instruction model that builds ABE and/or ESOL education skills and college level workforce education skills together, challenging the traditional idea that such learning must take place sequentially. The premise of I-BEST is to provide just the right level of ABE/ESL in just the right amount for students to succeed in college-level workforce education training programs. I-BEST also lays the groundwork so students can continue on in training or come back for additional training after they go to work. I-BEST is offered in all 34 of Washington s community and technical colleges.

Presenters Bios:

Tina L. Bloomer is a Workforce Education Policy Associate for the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, where she has served on the staff since 2004. Kim Ward holds a M.ed in TESOL and has worked in the area of basic skills for approximately 12 years teaching and developing curriculum for ESOL, ABE/GED and Workplace basic skills programs.
