Overview

The SMARTT New User online course is a self-paced, moderated training designed to give you a hands-on experience using SMARTT. It trains SMARTT data entry staff to navigate and do key forms of data entry in the system. All participants who complete this training will be certified.

    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Staff members who are from Massachusetts programs funded by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE). Two staff members from each program are required to complete this training.
Description

Massachusetts programs funded by the ESE are required to have two staff members in their program who have completed this training. This online workshop is completely asynchronous, meaning it can be done on your own time, but you must complete it within the dates posted. The course has required assignments and projects. Upon successful completion, you will receive five hours of professional development credit, and a certificate of completion will be noted in your online professional development record.

The course runs on the Moodle platform, which is compatible with many Web browsers. Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Internet Explorer all work fine.  The SMARTT application only works on Internet Explorer. We suggest you have one browser window open for the course instructions (e.g., Firefox) and an Internet Explorer window open for SMARTT. Activities and projects involve entering data into SMARTT and uploading answers in Moodle.

You will receive an individual logon (userID and password) to access the course in Moodle and an additional logon to practice entering data in SMARTT. Note: Do not use your agency’s userId and password for completing course activities.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Browsers

SMARTT only works with Internet Explorer. IE11 is recommended because it is the safest. The main setting adjustment for IE11 is to add “doemass.org” to the list of sites in “Compatibility View Settings,” located in the Tools menu. Please consult smartthelp.zendesk.com for a tutorial on other setting adjustments.

Monitor Resolution

A monitor resolution of 1024 x 768 or greater is required. SMARTT screens are designed for monitors with at least this minimum resolution. In IE11, make sure the “Zoom” level is set to 100%.
