Questioning is a powerful teaching approach. Student learning is enhanced when you ask high-order questions and give your students opportunities to think critically and to develop deep explanations. Effective teacher questioning helps students acquire the skills required by the CCR Standards. Equally important are the questions that students ask themselves to direct their own learning progress.

Learn to ask questions that promote student thinking and deeper learning, discover techniques to check for student understanding, and explore ways to encourage student self-questioning so they can monitor and adjust their own learning strategies to ensure that they meet with success.
- Identify teacher questions that promote student critical thinking
- Discuss effective question-asking sequences
- Cultivate classroom questioning practices that reinforce the cognitive skills required by the CCR Standards, such as reading closely to determine what a text says and using evidence from the text to support conclusions drawn from the text
- Identify strategies for encouraging student self-questioning and peer questioning
- Set a goal for using one questioning strategy in your classes that will help your students to increase their college and career readiness
