Research has indicated that the ability to read complex text is an important predictor of college and career readiness, and helping learners master complex text is at the core of implementing the College and Career Readiness ELA Standards. Participants will take part in hands-on activities and practice to explore the following areas: how to determine reliability, how to use CCRSAE rubrics to analyze text complexity for informational and literacy texts, and how to help students tackle text complexity at the word, sentence, paragraph, and whole text level. This face-to-face training will be followed up with an online two hour webinar. The webinar/discussion with the presenter is considered part of the overall training, so please expect to attend both components.

- Understand and discuss the CCRSAE Anchor 10 Associated Quantitative Measure of Text Complexity Chart
- Use readability and text complexity to compare and select texts that are most appropriate to use with students
- Dissect a complex text and coach students through the material
