Overview

Engage in a variety of exercises and activities to develop an understanding of the critical role building knowledge and vocabulary plays in the CCRS and in students' ability to read and communicate proficiently. The session will also highlight how students learn from what they read.

Description

One of the key advances prompted by the CCRS is "Building Knowledge through Content-Rich Nonfiction". Engage in a variety of exercises and activities to develop an understanding of the critical role building knowledge and vocabulary plays in the CCRS and in students' ability to read and communicate proficiently. Examine a text set, discuss the design of the coherently sequenced set of resources, and consider implications for classroom instruction. Learn how to identify strong writing and speaking activities that will help students collect and articulate their learning through authentic career and college experiences.

Following this day-long course, participants will be expected to submit at least two thoughtful responses in an online forum, within a month of the training.  You will then receive recognition for eight hours of PD time.
