Overview

A participatory workshop in which ESOL practitioners develop instructional units using the Backward Design approach that aligns desired learning outcomes, assessment and activities.

Description

This workshop on Backward Design is focused on designing instructional units for effective learning. The Backward Design approach, originated by Wiggins and McTeague, helps you to connect the purpose and desired results of your teaching with how your students will demonstrate their learning.  We will analyze a sample ESOL unit to uncover the essential elements of Backward Design and then design a unit together. Participants are requested to bring sample units from their program's ESOL Scope and Sequence to work on and refine.
