Overview

An online community of practice supporting ESOL practitioners as they develop ESOL unit plans, following the Backward Design approach to curriculum and instructional planning.

Description

The community of practice is designed for participants to work on their program’s ESOL unit plans, share their work, questions and insights, and receive feedback and guidance from the CoP facilitator and other participants.  The Backward Design approach, originated by Wiggins and McTighe, will be used, helping teachers align the desired learning outcomes, evidence of learning, and learning activities of the unit.

The CoP lasts six weeks, with an estimated time commitment of one-two hours each week, not all of it online.  The CoP is run through the Blackboard learning management system and upon registering, participants will be enrolled in a Bb course.  All materials will be provided through Bb.
