RECENTLY ADDED PD SESSIONS

New dates and locations of John Strucker's EBRI: Diagnostic Reading Assessment have been added, increasing the opportunities to complete this prerequisite for future PD on EBRI (evidence-based reading instruction).

Each face-to-face session is followed by practice, individual feedback from Dr. Strucker, and a final webinar. Over the next three months, be sure to attend one of these sessions:

Free webinars for educators are hosted by The New York Times Learning Network, Primary Source, and Facing History and Ourselves. While many of this fall's webinars have already taken place, a few are still upcoming.

REMINDER: ONGOING ONLINE OPPORTUNITIES

  • Overview of EBRI: a webinar of less than one hour, open for viewing starting the first of each month—see upcoming ELA events for links to specific months (Note: This webinar is a prerequisite for all other EBRI trainings, unless you are already STAR trained or currently participating in STAR training.)
  • The Recipe for Success: The CCRSAE and Instructional Shifts for ELA: a lightly facilitated min-course of approximately three hours, starts the second second Tuesday of each month (except December)—see upcoming ELA events for links to specific months
  • The ELA PLC (Professional Learning Community): you may register for this ongoing online forum at any time

COMING IN 2018

History Made Memorable Through Multimedia (online, January-February): Learn how to use three multimedia tools to create lessons that engage your students, even if you can’t access the web in your classroom.

Critical Friends is expanding from last year's successful pilot: members of that pilot group will lead new groups. Read about what Critical Friends meant to one of the pilot participants and its potential for all teachers. Interested in participating or learning more? Write to Lakshmi Nayak (lnayak@qcc.mass.edu).

EBRI trainings in the essential components of reading will debut in late winter or spring:

  • Alphabetics, with Sylvia Greene (for GLE 0-3)
  • Fluency, with Meredith Liben (for GLE 0-3)
  • Comprehension and Vocabulary Through Building Knowledge, with Rachel Etienne (for GLE 9-12)
  • Comprehension: Teaching Advanced Readers, with Amy Trawick (for GLE 9-12)
