    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Program directors and instructors who are in the process of designing an IET program or in the early stages of implementation.
  • Instructors (ABE/ASE/ESOL and occupational training) who are designing IET curriculum.
  • Program teams that include AE directors, instructors, and advisors, are the ideal audience.
Description

Increasingly, adult educators assist students in accessing occupational training and academic instruction to achieve the employment outcomes required by WIOA by offering Integrated Education and Training (IET). IET programs enable students to achieve their educational and career goals concurrently by offering academic and/or English instruction integrated with occupational training, resulting in certifications that lead to employment in high-demand industries.  To design an effective IET program, you need to understand the local labor market as well as the educational needs and career interests of your target population. Collaboration with workforce and industry experts and training providers ensure that you incorporate real-world, relevant, and up-to-date knowledge and skills into your curriculum development.

This two-part PD session provides you with guidance and tools you’ll need to conduct labor market research, develop partnerships, and design a curriculum for a comprehensive IET program.

Part 1:  Webinar (If you missed the 4/10 webinar, you can still register for Part 2. Once you register, we will send you a recording of the webinar so that you can complete the prep activity prior to 5/9.)

NOTE: When registering for Part 1 (April 10), you will automatically be registered for Part 2. To register, use the “Register” tab at the top of this SABES Calendar page. As we get closer to the date we will send you information how to access this webinar.

This web-based orientation will introduce the resources you will use to research your local labor market and explore different IET program models in preparation for the face-to-face session. This orientation is required for attendance on May 9. You should expect to spend about two hours on reading and research activities between the 4/10 webinar and 5/9 session.

Part 2: May 9, 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m: Quinsigamond Community College

During this face-to-face session, you will explore and use two resource guides that are foundational to IET program design: 1) Developing Basic Skills Curriculum for an IET: A Guide for the Pathways to Employment Program and 2) Integrated Education and Training: Implementing Programs in Diverse Contexts. With the information you gathered before the session, guidance from the presenter, and feedback from peers, you will begin to develop an IET action plan.

For more information on IET program models, view this archived webinar series from the National College Transition Network, and the guide Integrated Education and Training: Implementing Programs in Diverse Contexts.
