Google Tip:
Use Google Site Search. Having trouble finding something on a large site? Try typing your search term, followed by site (colon) then the URL, like this:
"performance standards" site:doe.mass.edu/acls
Quote from a participant at a recent workshop:
" I can tell you, I spent 15-20 minutes searching for the document I wanted in the DOE site, but when I used the site search technique, it came up instantly.  How to save time is one of the most valuable things we can learn!"

Sites You Should Know

New York City Public Library Digital Gallery

Bookworms don't need to live in Manhattan to explore the city's legendary public library.  The digital gallery of the New York Public Library (NYPL) provides readers and researchers from all over the world with access to over half a million digitized images from its extensive collection.

Visitors can search the website by topical sections, which include "Culture & Society", "History & Geography", "Nature & Science", "Industry & Technology", and more.  You will also find other rarities from the NYPL archives such as printed ephemera, rare prints, historical maps,

illuminated manuscripts, and illustrated books.  And you don't have to whisper either!

Swivel

Tasty treats for Data Geeks

Swivel is a place where curious people explore data — all kinds of data.

Swivel lets you explore data and share your insights with others. Swivel has data about politics, economics, weather, sports, business and more.

Swivel is full of good stuff. We think of it like this:

  • Explore popular data or obscure data. Search for it or have fun cruising all the colorful graphs, data sets and opinions.
  • Compare gas prices to presidential approval ratings or UFO sightings to iPod sales. You might find a crazy coincidence or something more.
  • Share your insights by posting a graph to your blog or emailing a link to your friends and coworkers.
  • Upload the information you care about, describe it, pick a color scheme and even pick a cool photo to bring it to life.

If you're curious about data, Swivel is the place for you.
