The SABES library exists in one physical location — at UMass Boston — but it will enthusiastically serve practitioners across Massachusetts! (See full vision and mission statement.) The collection contains several thousand books — both for professional development and for classroom use — plus curricula, lesson plans, videos and DVDs.

If you can't visit in person, you may connect via phone, e-mail or online catalog. After determining which resources you'd like to borrow, we'll mail them directly to you. To return items, simply drop them off at your nearest public or academic library.

Borrower Registration

We're asking all borrowers to register with us, although we only can lend to Massachusetts adult literacy practitioners. Please fill out our registration form and return it to the address indicated on the form or to your friendly SABES regional office.

For the SABES Library, the borrowing period is one month and you may renew items.

As a registered borrower, you may reserve items via our online catalog and we'll ship the resource(s) to you.

Online Catalog

You may search our library catalog by author, title, subject or keyword. Also check the New Materials and Recommendations links. With any set of search results, you may choose to have the results sorted by author, title or call number.

The Book Bag is your self-created bibliography of items which interest you. You may print the list for later referral. This list is erased when you exit our online catalog.

Reserving an item is done from within a given catalog record. You'll see the "Reserve / Hold" button within the record. When you click on this button, you'll be asked for your Patron ID (or name) and your password number. Once you've made a reservation, we will mail the item(s) to you within one week.

NOTE: When you make an online reservation, you'll see the text: "There is a copy available in the library for immediate pick-up." Ignore that text; we'll mail you the resource.
