A new ABE-to-College Transition Project
is getting off the ground this spring at six adult
learning centers in Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Its goal is to build
program capacity and create opportunities for adult literacy program graduates to prepare for,
enter, and succeed in post-secondary education so as to help them improve and enrich their own
and their families' lives. GED and adult diploma graduates will have an opportunity to attend
12-week academic preparation classes in reading, writing, math, computer, and study skills
supplemented by workshops and individual counseling. They will also receive mentoring and
tutoring once they are enrolled in college courses.
The New England ABE-to-College Transition Project is a partnership between the New
England Literacy Resource Center (NELRC) at World Education and the six adult learning
centers. It is funded by the Nellie Mae Foundation. For more information, please contact Jessica
Spohn, coordinator, at 617-482-9485, ext. 513, or by e-mail at: jspohn@worlded.org
