Museum Institute for Teaching Science (MITS, Inc.), founded by a group of Massachusetts Museums
in 1983, is a non-profit organization that promotes the teaching of science, mathematics, and
technology, in an inquiry-based, hands-on, minds-on method of teaching. They sponsor summer
institutes for teachers, professional development seminars, and a parent involvement project.
They also participate in sponsoring the Northeast Informal Science Education Network (NISEN)
where informal science educators learn from one another.
