YMCA International Students Go to a nearby computer store 5/12/2005

We took a field trip to a Boston area computer store with four students. We had a contest to see who could find the cheapest computer, printer, monitor and hardware for telephony. They had a $1000 dollar limit, but the winner was able to do it for less than $600. This was a great experience for the students. It gave them first-hand experience with how to go buy a computer. The salespeople in the store were exceptionally helpful. This experience gave the students confidence and practice in speaking English with a stranger in a setting that might make some people afraid.

Mei Ying is from China. She does not yet have a computer at home. She wants to learn about the types of computers that are available and the best prices.
