Mind Mapping Software

What is it?

Also known as Graphic Organizers, this is software that allows rapid development of graphic maps that facilitate brainstorming and help communicate complex thought structures in a simple and easy to understand way. Its a process that can also happen on paper by writing, drawing and pasting images. The idea is to represent causal relationships and connections graphically, with text, image and lines or arrows.

How can I learn about how it is used?

Here are some examples on the Inspriation website

Where can I get software to try?

Here are two products I know. The first is a well known commercial product called Inspiration. It is user friendly once you get used to the concepts and tools and offers a great deal of flexiblity in how you can view the information you create. There is a 30 day free trail that you can download.

The second is a freeware product made by Tufts University called VUE. Its very simple and easy to learn. But lacks some of the features of Inspiration that could be useful for students.
