College fo a Day was a big success again. Here's a picture of Nilka Ortiz after delivering an inspiring keynote of her own journey through ABE services and college and into the professional work world:

SABES West's offices and several training rooms will be moving. We're going downtown! Here's a pic of the old Holyoke Fire Station, currently being renovated and renamed as theHolyoke MultiModal Transportation Center. If all goes as planned, we could be moving to the fourth floor in about a year. We'll periodically post a picture of the new space. This was taken on July 8th, 2009.
On November 7, 2008, SABES West held a workshop on Teacher Resilience. People came together for the entire day to talk about why they teach, how they are currently feeling about their jobs, what they need to continue to feel passionate about what they do and other topics related to the art of teaching, including what does the heart of teaching mean to you?
Periods of information presented by the facilitators and discussion were mixed with activities intended to give teachers time to stop and reflect on what they do, as well as looking at how to manage stress in their workdays and personal lives.
When commenting on the workshop, one person said that teachers always get the chance to go to workshops and talk about their students and tools for teaching but rarely get a chance to talk about and reflect upon themselves and why they do what they do. SABES West hopes to give more teachers a chance for self reflection and renewal in the future.
The workshop was facilitated by Claire Stanley of The Center for Mindful Inquiry in Brattleboro, VT and Michele Sedor of SABES West.
