Overview

Participants will learn what the planning and implementation phases of a Workplace Education Partnership entail. This workshop will introduce the progression of activities arising from “I have a business partner in place. Now what do I do?”

Description

This workshop will explore the purposes of the Workforce Needs Analysis (WNA) and the Planning and Evaluation (PET) Teams and their roles, responsibilities, and possibilities. Topics will include connecting with management, understanding the culture of the workplace, and assessing the skill needs of the employees. There will be a brief introduction to curricular outlines and the use of authentic contextualized materials in the classroom.

This overview session is geared towards program staff –  administrators, coordinators, instructors  -  who are new to Workplace Education and/or interested in pursuing a Workplace Education Partnership, whether funded through ESE or other sources. 

Participants will be invited to participate in a Virtual Community of Practice (VCoP) following the session to discuss ongoing questions and resources. 

    Learning Objectives

    Upon completion of this professional development activity/course, you will be able to:

  • Identify five strategies to implement for an effective workplace needs analysis
  • Design key recruitment and skill identification documents (e.g., informational flyer, employee survey instrument and assessment of pre-class outcomes)
  • Summarize at least three roles of the Planning and Evaluation Team with examples
  • Outline two potential obstacles to student employee participation with possible solutions
