Overview

Motivational interviewing (MI) is a form of empathic dialogue for strengthening a person’s motivation and commitment to change that can be used in adult education advising, coaching, and teaching. This 3.5-hour interactive offering gives those who have completed the basic MI training an opportunity to learn additional MI strategies and practice their MI skills.

Please note:

This professional development activity/course is designed for those who completed the basic MI training through SABES or elsewhere, if that training was at least 16 hours long and included at least 8 hours of practice. Please contact us with any questions about this requirement (jane_brandt@worlded.org)."

Description

This offering provides an opportunity for motivational interviewing users to practice their craft under the guidance and supervision of an experienced practitioner. You are welcome to bring topics that stem from their own practice.

Motivational Interviewing Refresher will:

  • Provide you with a brief review of the basic MI training
  • Delve deeper into formation of reflections
  • Offer a chance for practice

After the training, you will have an increased understanding of reflections and tools that may help create them.

The training is participatory and you can expect to be engaged into discussion and practice scenarios for most of the session time. We will use a blend of large group discussion, role play, and brief lecture methodologies.

Several days before the event, Jane Brandt at jane_brandt@worlded.org will send you an email with the Zoom link.
