Overview

This online series will exemplify ways of working with groups exploring technology, as well as allowing the opportunity to try out and evaluate technology tools and resources that can be useful and engaging for learners, be they students or staff.

Description

The series supports state and local level efforts to cross-train staff on digital literacy, and builds awareness about national and regional Internet access expansion efforts.  The target audience is adult education staff interested in the professional development of employees working to enhance the skills, employability, and quality of life of youth and adults with low skill.

Three one hour webinars are available.  Each is standalone, so feel free to take one or more.

Webinar One - Access and Affordability.  Digital strategies have to start with access, but what does that mean?  Access to the Internet, to a device, and to high-quality content are just a few types this workshop will demonstrate how to address. January 7, 2016  http://www.sabes.org/event/724

Webinar Two - Ease of Use and Relevance.  Ease of use: 1) Allowing students to use their own devices can address a paucity of computers at a program. 2) Students with disabilities may be eligible for no-cost memberships to Bookshare, which delivers materials in several formats, and reading software that facilitates study.  Relevance: Job Scout is designed for low-skilled readers in English and Spanish, and offers many features to assist with job searches and applications, digital literacy tutorials, a social media platform, and badges.  January 14, 2016  http://www.sabes.org/event/725

Webinar Three - Building Your Confidence/resources for Practitioners.  Practitioners need confidence to do more with technology for our students.  The LINCS site has 16 topical Community Groups and numerous online courses.  Examples of topics include career pathways, adult ESL, and integrating technology, and disabilities.  January 21, 2016  http://www.sabes.org/event/726

Completion of the following is required.  (If you participate in two or three modules, completion for more than one module is optional and welcomed.)
