Carlos Monteiro

Bio

Carlos Monteiro, Boston Debate League (BDL) Instructional Coach for High Schools, is a Math and Science educator with 10 years of experience teaching EL students in BPS before moving to a district position in Boston for an additional 3 years as a Data Inquire Facilitator. As a teacher, he was part of the school's ILT as the Science team leader while also teaching Algebra and Physics to students who had recently arrived in the country. In the district, Carlos worked alongside 6 school leaders each year help to organize and plan their adult structures (i.e. teacher team meetings, ILT, and PD). In his role as a Data Inquiry Facilitator, Carlos also helped plan and lead district wide professional development sessions aligned to district priorities. He holds a BA in Math from Boston College and an MEd from UMass Boston. Carlos recently joined the BDL as a Debate-Inspired Classrooms Instructional Coach at three BPS schools. 

Sarah Mayper

Bio

Sarah Mayper, Boston Debate League (BDL) Instructional Coach for High Schools and the CZI Teacher Lead Cohort, is a veteran teacher with more than 30 years of experience working in public schools. She holds a BA in English from Brown University, an MA from Stanford University, and a doctorate in Curriculum and Teaching from Boston University, where her research focused on students with disabilities in the Boston Public Schools. She has extensive experience as a teacher educator, leading professional development in mathematics, arts integration, literacy across the curriculum, and differentiation, and has expertise in qualitative education research. She has served as a Debate-Inspired Classrooms Instructional Coach at six BPS schools.
