This paper from the Community College Research Center uses data from interviews with nearly 100 community college students to understand how confidence impacts student persistence and, in turn, how experiences in college impact student confidence. The paper concludes with recommendations for structuring classroom activities so that students may gain confidence through “experiences of earned success” that can set them on a path to academic success. Though written about community college settings, the findings and recommendations are relevant to adult education as well.
