Art of Advising introduces practical tools, strategies, and approaches for staff whose primary responsibility is advising. Content and activities focus on effective practices aligned with Indicator of Program Quality #7 (IPQ7). IPQ7 addresses the equitable delivery of advising and support services to help students identify and make progress towards educational and career goals. While this offering is geared towards staff who are new to the advisor role, it can also benefit experienced advisors seeking to refresh their knowledge and skills.

This professional development activity/course is designed for:
This course covers core advisor responsibilities and considerations for successful program design, including student caseload, advisor Full Time Equivalent (FTE), and persistence data. In this course, you will identify effective practices aligned with IPQ7 and select resources for implementation. We will also utilize the career awareness and planning cycle to help students make informed decisions and pursue postsecondary education, training, and employment.
Format & Requirements: This course consists of four, two-hour virtual sessions and around two hours of independent work. The total estimated time to complete this course is 10 hours, to be completed over four weeks.
