Using articles written by adult learners with disabilities and learning differences, you will identify changes you can make to become more inclusive of all learners in your practice and your program.
- ADA coordinators, program directors, instructors, and advisors interested in integrating disability inclusive practices into their programming
This professional development activity/course is designed for:
Although research on accommodated learning in adult education is limited, we know from other research (e.g., on persistence and student retention) that learners benefit from having agency over their own learning and being included in program-wide planning and design. The Change Agent special series on disabilities and learning differences gives us direct access to students who share in their own words what they need, what works for them (and what doesn’t), and what they want others to know about their experiences.
In this session, you will hear ideas and perspectives from students about strategies and accommodations you could implement or amplify if you already have them in place. Using large and small group discussions, you will identify possible changes to make to your own program at the individual, programmatic, and cultural levels. You will leave with concrete ideas about how to support student agency, increase accessibility, and build a stronger sense of inclusive community in your program.
