Preparing adult learners to thrive in the workforce is the collective work of teachers, advisors, and administrative staff. As a program leader, you play a pivotal role in bringing these efforts together into a cohesive, program-wide approach. Establishing a shared language and strategy for naming, building, and applying essential workforce skills can strengthen program efficiency and effectiveness, and create the conditions for better student outcomes and success in the workplace and beyond.
- Directors, coordinators, and others responsible for program design or leadership
- Leadership teams, including lead instructors and advisors
This professional development activity/course is designed for:
This two-part workshop provides program leaders and teams with practical tools and strategies to build a sustainable, program-wide approach to naming, embedding, and strengthening critical workforce skills across classes and services. You will leave with a concrete goal and action plan to strengthen the integration of workforce skills across your program.
- In Session 1, you will consider key strategies for building an effective plan, review real-world examples from fellow directors, begin to identify a goal, and explore templates and resources for building a personalized plan.
- In Session 2, you will share your goals, consider and discuss collective feedback, and develop an action plan for implementation.
This workshop includes time for participants to develop and refine a goal and action plan. We encourage (but do not require) programs to participate in teams of two or three staff members (e.g., program director and assistant director/lead teacher/lead advisor) to build shared leadership, support implementation, and create sustainable practices across the program.
