“Everyone is an advisor now” is a familiar refrain these days, as we all recognize that learners need many supports normally relegated to advising programs. To support a programmatic approach to advising, the Program Support Professional Development Center (PSPDC) developed and circulated The Effective Practices Aligned with Indicator of Program Quality (IPQ) #6 Guide, which draws from the previous Indicators of Effective Advising, as well as other evidence-based practices and professional wisdom. COVID-related economic upheaval has advisors continuing to support learners with career exploration and job searching. To support advisors in this process we offered a May 2020 webinar on Online Career Planning and Job Search Tools: Supporting Students from a Distance. You can also review a repository of online career exploration tools from MOVEUP. Outstationing coordinators are continuing to work remotely to support students by way of working partnerships with local workforce agencies.
The PSPDC supports advising programs in connecting with learners, sharing resources and referrals, and making progress with education and career planning in online and blended models. We offer a session on Tools and Strategies for Remote Advising that addresses some common challenges in remote advising. This summary document shares Tech Tools for Advising from a winter 2020 session.
