Are you a tech beginner who feels a bit intimidated at digital literacy workshops where there are participants with more advanced tech skills than you have? Would you like to have time to learn and practice with people who are at the same level of experience as you so you feel comfortable learning at the right pace for you? Join us for a three-part workshop for hands-on practice, online discussion to further develop ideas and answer questions, and a wrap-up conference call.
This professional development activity/course is designed for:
- Administrators, teachers, tutors, and advisors with beginner-level technology skills
The first part (3 hours) is an in-personworkshop where we will start from reviewing how to turn devices on and off, practice basic operations, and move on to simple ways to use the devices with students and in the office. We will go over devices participants have at their programs, such as smartphones, Chromebooks, iPads, laptops, and portable projectors, and experiment with using programs/apps for voice and video recording, productivity (Google Docs and more), learning content, and interactive response quizzes.
The second part (1 hour) will be a continuation of our discussion and resource- and idea-sharing in a supportive online forum (which we will practice at the workshop so anyone new to that will leave feeling comfortable).
The third part (1 hour) will be a conference call on March 29, to talk together about what you've accomplished and your plans for after this workshop, and additional resources and strategies to help you maintain your digital literacy momentum.
Please bring any portable devices you use at your program and have passwords needed to download apps (programs). (Ask your director for information.)
