This workshop will explore the needs of immigrants and refugees with high skills and education and the strategies adult ESOL programs can use to address these needs.

  • ESOL teachers and program directors who would like to better address the needs of their students who have advanced professional and/or academic skills
Description

For the past few years, WIOA has called on the field of adult education to address the needs of immigrants and refugees with high skills—people who come to this country with post-secondary education and/or occupational training but need language and other supports to reclaim their careers. This workshop will explore the needs of this population and the strategies for addressing them through adult education programs.

    Upon completion of this professional development activity/course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the learning needs and barriers to success for high-skilled immigrants and refugees
    Incorporate instructional strategies that serve this population’s needs
    Design program services and activities that supplement instruction
