Overview

Come share and learn ideas for using digital learning tools and explore tools for assessing students’ digital literacy skills and learning gains. Collaborate with workplace education colleagues to share strategies for integrating digital literacy into the workplace classroom.

This is the third in a series of facilitated sharing meetings designed specifically for workplace education staff.

    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Teachers and coordinators in workplace education programs
  • Program coordinators and teachers in the process of developing a workplace education program
Description

What does digital learning look like in your workplace education classroom? Would you like to be doing more but are not sure how? What basic digital literacy skills do your students use in the workplace? We will share our ideas for using digital learning tools based on our own experience and through our ideas generated by a pre-reading activity (see below). We will also explore a variety of ways we can assess students’ learning of digital resources, and conversely, how to use digital tools for assessment.

Continuing with the theme of digital literacy, you’ll learn about the four Adult Literacy XPRIZE app winners: Learning Upgrade, People ForWords, Cell-Ed, and Amrita Create. You’ll receive the Team WorldEd code for the XPRIZE Communities Competition so that you can share these free apps with your students. We will brainstorm ways to use these apps to extend student learning both in and out of the classroom. We will also discuss how to engage your employer-partner in the effort, expand app usage to your students’ coworkers, and show a return on investment.
