While it is designed mainly around the needs of ESOL teachers, ABE teachers who work with immigrant students might also benefit from knowing how the naturalization process works and how to answer students’ questions about it.

This workshop details the four components of the citizenship test, how the test is administered, and what students need to do to pass it. The presenter will ask you to help her stage a naturalization interview while she provides explanations of why examiners ask particular questions. Finally, she will offer strategies for test preparation in the classroom, with an emphasis on helping at-risk students (i.e., students who might not pass due to low proficiency or literacy, anxiety, or disabilities).
