Overview

Too often we hear adult educators mention how isolated they feel. The Math Matters series is an opportunity to bring practitioners together to share their struggles along with any ideas that they're implementing. It is also an opportunity to learn not just from one another, but also from the nationally recognized, expert facilitators from the SABES Mathematics and Adult Numeracy Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) PD Center. Topics will vary, based on the requests from practitioners in your region.

Sign up to learn from your colleagues and the Math PD Center, and be prepared to become an active member of a community of learners. Registration is required to get a head count for each session.

    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Novice to experienced adult numeracy practitioners, including directors and ABE, ASE, and ESOL teachers, who are interested in learning and sharing math ideas
Description

At these Math Matters sessions, the SABES Mathematics and Adult Numeracy C&I PD Center facilitators are prepared with a math topic for you to delve into. During the session, we will also ask for your input regarding math topics that are of interest to you so that future sessions meet your specific needs and interests.

We facilitate the discussions as you share new ideas and ask questions about math concerns that affect adult learners. Through sharing, you will have the opportunity to learn how others address similar concerns, and you will learn how research can affect classroom practice.

Please join us in this opportunity for mutual learning and support this year!

Each of these sessions is a stand-alone, three-hour workshop. Attendance at all sessions is encouraged, but not required. For more information, please contact Sherry Soares (sherry_soares@terc.edu).
