Overview

The Curriculum for Adults Learning Math (CALM) is based on the College and Career Readiness Standards for Mathematics. These standards and curriculum require you to teach conceptually. Since many of us were only taught procedurally, it can be challenging to figure out how to teach differently.

These sessions are a way for the SABES Mathematics and Adult Numeracy Curriculum & Instruction PD Center to support you as you begin to implement new ways of teaching math. This session is specifically for programs at corrections sites and will provide an opportunity for participants to strategize around issues that are unique to your settings.

Registration is required to get a head count for each session. If you have any specific questions regarding CALM implementation, we encourage you to contact us when you register.

    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Novice to experienced adult numeracy practitioners in corrections, including directors, who are implementing CALM or are interested in hearing how others are implementing it
Description

At the CALM Support Sessions, we facilitate discussions as you share new ideas, ask questions regarding CALM, and explore solutions to issues unique to your environment. Through sharing, you will have the opportunity to learn how others address similar concerns. Based on your specific questions and needs, we will also provide on the spot PD to help you be better prepared to implement CALM. (Please note: only those who have attended a full CALM Orientation will have access to the complete curriculum.)

It will be helpful to know your specific concerns ahead of time so that the facilitators can come prepared to address them. If you have a specific topic you want to see discussed, send us an email after you register. Please join us for mutual CALM learning and support this year!

Each of these sessions is a stand-alone, three-hour workshop. Future sessions will be posted on the SABES calendar. For more information, please contact Sherry Soares (sherry_soares@terc.edu).

The snow date for this event is January 16.
