Learn how to use tech tools to increase student motivation and persistence in reaching their education and career goals. In addition to enhancing motivation, these tools can help students gain fluency in digital literacy skills that will serve them at school and at work. This workshop will introduce tech tools you can use to keep in touch with students, access education and career planning information, and help students organize shared resources and assignments.
This professional development activity/course is designed for:
- Advisors, teachers, and anyone interested in using technology to support students in reaching their educational and career goals
In this blended (face-to-face and online) workshop, you will identify a specific goal or task you want to accomplish in your classroom or advising practice, and then learn how to select a technology tool that can best help you meet your goals and the goals of your students.
With a clear purpose in mind, we will investigate free, user-friendly tools such as Google Drive, Remind, Facebook, and resources such as the Massachusetts Career Information System (MassCIS) and College for Adults, among others. Come ready to share resources and practices you have found to be successful.
The total time for this PD activity is approximately 7.5 hours. This PD event involves four activities and all are required to complete the PD.
The course schedule is as follows:
- February 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. face-to-face session or attend remotely (2.5 hours). If you do not need in-person support to access new tech tools and prefer to join the face-to-face meeting remotely, this is an option. You must have access to high-speed Internet, headset with mic and earphones, and be comfortable using Zoom.
- Online discussion forum through February 25th, 2020 (approximately 1.5 hour)
- Complete the assignment (approximately 2 hours)
- Participate in final webinar on Tuesday, February 25th, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (1.5 hour)
Upon completion of this professional development activity/course, you will be able to:
- Identify a tech tool to achieve a teaching or advising goal
- Draft and implement a project, pilot lesson or advising activity using this tool
- Present the draft plan and, if applicable, outcomes of the pilot lesson or project
