Overview

In this 1.5 hour virtual meeting in Blackboard Collaborate, teachers will explore how to transition successfully to remote ESOL instruction that meets the needs of learners at every language proficiency level.

Description

In this virtual meeting, teachers explore key elements to a successful transition to remote ESOL instruction, including needs assessment, strategies for differentiation, selection of tools for communication and instructional management, and synchronous and asynchronous instruction approaches.  By the end of the session, participants will have a clearer idea of the choices and considerations necessary to implement a smooth transition.  

After a brief presentation by the facilitators, participants will have opportunities to share their particular concerns and questions and explore answers together.  There will also be breakout rooms based on the English proficiency level being taught so that teachers can focus on the particular needs of that level. Participants will also receive a Remote Instruction Transition Planning Resource List, which will include links to the worksheet materials.

  • Identify options for ongoing communication with your adult ESOL students
  • Evaluate strategies for organization and delivery of remote ESOL instruction
  • Begin to plan for your transition tools & implementation
