Overview

The CALM (Curriculum for Adults Learning Math) was designed to give adult students a strong conceptual foundation in mathematics. Teachers who have worked with CALM know that it relies heavily on tactile manipulatives, visuals, and student collaboration—so what does that look like in a time of remote learning? This webinar will take teachers through a CALM lesson that has been adapted for remote teaching through a video conferencing app. Afterwards, there will be time to discuss as a group and brainstorm ideas for adapting the CALM materials for remote learning.

    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • ABE math teachers who have taken the CALM orientation and have some experience teaching CALM
Description

This 2.5-hour webinar will present an adapted version of CALM Unit 1 Lesson 1, which introduces the concept of area. You will participate in adapted activities using both virtual manipulatives and objects from around your own home! Afterward, there will be time for a discussion and brainstorming session for CALM teachers to share ideas for adapting CALM lessons and activities for remote learning.
