Navigating Pathways to Opportunity prepares advisors, coaches, and college and career navigators to provide the comprehensive supports students need to successfully transition to career pathways, integrated education and training, and postsecondary education. In this course, you will learn strategies for identifying and engaging your adult learners’ aspirations, addressing barriers, and building a comprehensive network of support to promote persistence.

In this course, you will identify the key components of college and career navigation and explore the skills, resources, and partnerships needed to be an effective navigator.
This facilitated course runs for six weeks. The assignments will require approximately three to four hours per week.
While the online format allows you to work on weekly course assignments at your convenience, it is important to note that successful course completion entails completing weekly assignments by a set deadline. You will receive a schedule of weekly course assignments once you are enrolled.
To earn a certificate of completion, you must score 80% or above on the assignments. The course instructor will assess your work based on whether and to what extent you have completed the required assignments and postings.
- Identify the types of campus and community organizations to engage in supporting your students’ college and career readiness
- Implement a student intake interview protocol
- Describe the educational requirements, wage and labor information, and occupational profile for a career pathway
- Evaluate and select a variety of career planning resources
- Plan a set of navigator activities and identify resources, partners, and goals associated with each

As a prerequisite to this facilitated course, you must complete the three-hour self-paced course Finding True North: The Role of the Navigator, before Navigating Pathways to Opportunity begins on February 1. Finding True North will be opened on January 6th, 2021. Registering for this Navigating Pathways to Opportunity will automatically enroll you in Finding True North.
