Overview

With many program spaces closed, designing a process for online student intake and placement is a necessity. What are successful ways to carry out this process? How can staff collaborate to share the work?

Facilitated by Diana Satin, you will review a pre-recorded video with AACA Director of Next STEP Shinobu Ando who will discuss the process she and her colleagues put together (and revised) to move their assessments for applicants online. Shinobu will provide examples including interviewing, assessing language skills, and proctoring tests, as well as organizing small group and individual sessions.

The second half hour is reserved for your topics and questions, as time allows. To make the Coffee Hour as productive as possible, please post questions and any resources or strategies you would like to share on our discussion Padlet.

    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Program directors and members of their teams who assist with conducting student intakes and assessments online
Description

These Coffee Hours are intended to help you strengthen your and your program’s practices. Each Coffee Hour:

  • Addresses a specific topic requested by the field
  • Provides time for sharing practices and ideas
  • Affords the opportunity to share questions with the group

In response to feedback from our Coffee Hour participants, we offer these sessions twice: one for people with experience in distance education, and a second session for those who are new to this work. However, you may attend either session according to which works better for your schedule.

This session will focus on issues for those who are newer to distance education. If you prefer a discussion for educators who have more experience with distance and blended learning, you may opt to register here for the January 20 session.

    Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this professional development activity/course, you will be able to:

  • Integrate strategies for conducting new student intake and placement testing remotely
