math class over Zoom
Overview

The shift to virtual instruction has come with many challenges—learning new digital tools, keeping students engaged, and shifting lessons that were planned to be delivered face to face. There’s no one right way to teach remotely, but hearing how one teacher is doing it will help you get closer to the best approach for you.

    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • ABE and ASE teachers and administrators at all levels of math ability and comfort
Description

This session will showcase the learning curve that one teacher has experienced in adapting to remote teaching. Using concrete examples from her own teaching, she will speak candidly about a variety of digital tools she has used to cope with the challenges of transitioning to remote instruction, and explain why some resources and strategies have worked while others have not. There will be time to share your own questions and challenges and hear from your colleagues as well.

Please note: About one week before the event, registrants will receive a separate email from sherry_soares@terc.edu from the SABES Math Team at TERC with instructions on how to access the Zoom session.

    Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this professional development activity/course, you will be able to:

  • Learn effective strategies and resources for remote teaching
  • Be prepared to reflect critically on your own practice through a realistic and compassionate lens
  • Feel less alone in your struggles to navigate remote teaching
