Overview

Northstar Digital Literacy Standards for Essential Computer Skills define the basic skills needed to perform tasks on computers and online in daily life, employment, and higher education. They were developed in response to the needs of job seekers who may lack the digital literacy skills needed to seek, obtain, and retain employment, as well as to perform tasks in daily life.

These standards address the skills individuals need to perform tasks in three main areas:

  • Essential Computer Skills: Computer Basics, Internet Basics, Using Email, Windows, and MAC Operating System
  • Essential Software Skills: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Docs
  • Using Technology in Daily Life: Social Media, Information Literacy, Career Search Skills, Supporting K-12 Distance Learning, and Your Digital Footprint

Teachers, advisors, and others use the standards to guide their incorporation of digital literacy into their instruction and assessment work with students. In this way, their students build mastery in the areas that matter to them.

Unable to attend? Register and receive the webinar recording and assignment instructions, and complete by March 15.
