    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Adult English learner teachers of all levels
Description

This PD opportunity is designed for ESOL teachers to address questions and/or challenges using Zoom tools related to four key areas of instruction (engagement, presentation, formative assessment, and practice) in order to improve your and your learners' experience during remote instruction.

The 2-hour session is divided into four 30-minute segments, each focused on a particular element of the Zoom platform and its relationship to ESOL instruction:

  • Section 1 (2:00 - 2:30 p.m.) focuses on basic tools of chat, reactions, views, and polls for engagement and formative assessment.
  • Section 2 (2:30 - 3:00 p.m.) focuses on screen sharing and annotation for interactive presentation of content.
  • Section 3 (3:00 - 3:30 p.m.) focuses on breakout rooms for guided and communicative practice tasks.
  • Section 4 (3:30 - 4:00 p.m.) is a Q&A session based on questions (other than those related to the topics above) submitted via Google doc prior to the session.

This session is somewhat unconventional in that participants are invited to drop-in only for the segment(s) that meet their needs or they may choose to attend for the full 2 hours. In each segment, participants will briefly review and practice across devices (i.e., computers and smartphones) the tools associated with that segment and have opportunities to ask related questions as they arise.
