Overview

Students can arrive to our classes with a range of computer skills. This can be challenging to manage! Come hear how Catholic Charities, Worcester Public Schools, and MassLINKS adult education staff address this using a variety of approaches. These include an in-person “boot camp” before the semester starts, an in-class intensive focus on digital skills at the beginning of the semester, and a fully online training. Using these approaches can help students feel confident that they have the skills to handle the digital tools used in their classes.

We want to know what issues related to this topic you would like addressed. Also, if your program has a successful practice, we would love to hear about it! Post to our discussion board by 12/8 to inform our planning.

    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Teachers, technology coordinators, directors, program coordinators, and anyone interested in supporting students' digital literacy
Description

In this webinar, we will discuss ways programs can provide incoming students with the support they need so that they are prepared to handle the digital literacy skills their classes will require. You will evaluate the practices and decide if one would be helpful to try out at your program.

This offering includes strategies that programs can use to strengthen the support that staff provides to students so they can navigate classwork, regardless of prior access or knowledge. This outcome relates to equitable outcomes as indicated by IPQ Standard 2.2: "The program creates an environment that is welcoming, and provides students with the tools to navigate systems.”

Several days before the event, Jane Brandt at jane_brandt@worlded.org will send you an email with the Zoom link.
