Advisor sharing groups are peer-facilitated meetings where advisors provide program updates, discuss and troubleshoot common challenges, and share resources, promising practices, and more. This group is open to anyone who works in an advising role in a corrections setting, regardless of their title.

    Audience

    This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Both new and experienced advisors
  • Instructors who play a role in education and career planning and want to share and learn about promising practices and resources
Description

Advisors in correctional facilities from any region are welcome to join the Advisor Sharing Group. Let us support each other by sharing resources, strategies, and successes. This meeting is open to those with advising duties in corrections facilities anywhere in the state. 

Advisors from any region are welcome to join the Corrections Advisor Sharing Group, which focuses on corrections programs and concerns. Discussing common challenges, possible solutions, and resources, we will support each other by sharing methodologies, strategies, and successes.



The Jail Education Initiative at UMass-Amherst, a college in-prison program that provides post-secondary education to those incarcerated, will be presented by Laura Ciolkowski at this meeting.

Laura Ciolkowski is Senior Lecturer and co-founder of the UMass-Amherst Jail Education Initiative. Laura’s research and teaching lie at the intersection of critical prison studies, gender-based violence, feminist pedagogy, and literary studies. She also teaches college courses in jails and prisons in Massachusetts and New York State. Ciolkowski is the recipient of a Public Service Endowment Grant for her work in prison education and humanities scholarship, a WFUM grant for her work in support of literary arts in jail, the recipient of a Civic Engagement and Service-Learning Faculty Fellowship, and a TIDE Faculty Fellowship in Teaching for Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity. Laura is also a certified “Inside-Out” prison education instructor and a member of the Massachusetts Prison Education Consortium (MPEC).
