Overview

Wondering how you can best support your students and their families as we navigate the changing landscape of immigration policy and enforcement? Join SABES and the Massachusetts Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy (MIRA) Coalition to review Know Your Rights and Resources information for interactions with law enforcement, program-wide preparedness, and best practices for creating safe spaces for your students. This year's training will also include additional preparedness and advocacy resources available to everyone, regardless of their status.

    This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Any adult education professional who wants to more effectively support immigrant learners during this time
Description

This Know Your Rights and Resources training for adult educators aims to equip you with the knowledge and tools to effectively support your students and their school communities as they navigate the complexities of the current immigration climate. 

You will gain a foundational understanding of your students' rights and responsibilities, interactions with immigration enforcement, and program-wide preparedness planning. We will also discuss strategies for creating a welcoming and inclusive learning environment, building trust with your students, and fostering a sense of safety and security. The training shares resources to help families prepare for emergencies, access legal help, and spot immigration scams, as well as other legal resources. It concludes with additional immigrant family support resources and ways you can connect with the MIRA coalition for further involvement.

Once you register for this training, you will be sent a form where you can submit your questions to our MIRA Coalition facilitator in advance. By doing this, you will help tailor the training to your needs and ensure your needs are being met. Please submit your questions by Tuesday, November 4, at 5 p.m. 

Please note that this session will not be recorded to protect participant privacy.

Format & Requirements: This course consists of one online synchronous session of 1.5 hours, with no additional required work.
