Overview

Foundations for New Staff: Art of Advising introduces new advisors to tools, strategies, and concepts they can apply directly to the education and career planning process to help students plan their next steps. While this course is geared towards new advisors, it can also benefit experienced advisors seeking to refresh their knowledge and skills.

    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Staff who have been employed as ABE advisors for 12 months or less
Description

Participation in this two-session training fulfills the requirement of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE) that all advising staff in an ESE-funded ABE program complete the SABES Foundations for New Staff: Art of Advising within the first 12 months of employment.

To earn the Certificate of Completion, you must attend both sessions and spend two hours between each session on homework activities.

PART I: 3/16/2018 from 9:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

PART II: 4/9/2018 from 9:45 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

NOTE: When registering for Part I (March 16), you will automatically be registered for Part II. To register, use the “Register” tab at the top of this SABES Calendar page.

Newly hired advisors do not need to take this course if they were previously employed at an ESE-funded ABE program and already possess a Certificate of Completion from the Foundation's course or from the New Staff Orientation.

The prerequisite to this training for new staff is the online course Foundations for New Staff: Overview of the ABE Field. See below for more information about the prerequisite.
