Overview

Concurrent and contextualized instruction is a critical Integrated Education and Training (IET) and IET for Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE) component that requires a basic skills or English language instructor to align lessons and integrate instruction with training providers and occupational skills providers. This session will combine an informative webinar, a community of practice and an activity to give practitioners the tools needed to develop and implement contextualized curriculum. The focus of this session responds to the PD needs identified from a recent survey of current IET/IELCE program directors.

    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • New and experienced IET/IELCE directors and instructors who want to be more strategic in planning and implementing IET/IELCE curriculum
  • Occupational skills training partners may want to attend with their IET / IELCE team
Description

IET/IELCEs enable adult educators to help students access concurrent and contextual occupational training and academic instruction so that they can achieve their educational and career goals. Basic skills and ESOL instructors must plan instruction that is aligned with the academic and language needed for the occupational skills component of the IET/IELCE. The initial webinar will introduce the tools and strategies needed to complete the lesson development activity. After the webinar, you will use these tools to develop your own contextualized lesson, supported through a virtual community of practice (VCoP). You will share your reflections and work in a final webinar. We warmly welcome and encourage adult education and occupational skills instructors to attend the webinars and participate as teams when completing the activity.
