Overview

In this session, MassSTEP programs will apply the seven essential elements of successful partnerships to evaluate and improve their current partnerships and identify potential new partners. We will use small and large group discussions, case studies, and action planning to allow your program to identify partnership strengths, areas for improvement, and next steps.

This session is appropriate for all MassSTEP team members who play a role in developing and sustaining partnerships, and includes examples and strategies applicable to ESOL and ABE MassSTEP programs.

    Audience

This professional development activity/course is designed for:

  • Any new and experienced MassSTEP directors, coordinators, and practitioners who play a role in improving employer partnership strategies for their MassSTEP programs
  • MassHire, occupational skills providers, and employer partners

Description

Partnerships are not only an essential and mandated part of MassSTEP programming, but they are also the key to actually making your program function well. If partnerships, especially employer partners, are working in the way they are supposed to, adult education programs should not be shouldering the burden of recruiting, supporting, and transitioning students on their own.

In this session, participants will apply the seven essential elements of successful partnerships to case studies and their own MassSTEP partnerships to reflect on strengths  and areas for improvement. We will start by focusing on the initial stages of partnership development, doing our due diligence to pursue the right partnerships and position them for success. We will then focus on maintaining and improving partnerships through the lens of these seven elements:

  • Shared goals, activities, and benchmarks
  • Coordination and  staffing
  • Clarity of roles and responsibilities
  • Decision making and governance
  • Communication and transparency
  • Tracking progress and outcomes
  • Allocation of funding and other resources and sustainability

Program staff will leave with one action step they plan to take to improve or develop MassSTEP partnerships.

Several days before the event, Jane Brandt at jane_brandt@worlded.org will send you an email with the Zoom link.

Note: This session is part of a cohort-based MassSTEP PD series.

Attendance at all sessions is strongly encouraged. Please plan to have at least two staff members attending from your MassSTEP program.
