Overview

This workshop is geared towards ASE and ESOL instructors, and especially relevant to those teaching in Adult Career Pathway Programs. Using LaGuardia Community College’s evidence-based Bridge to College and Careers Program as a model, this workshop introduces educators to contextualized curriculum and program design strategies that develop adult learners’ academic competencies in preparation for the high school equivalency exams and postsecondary education. Description

This is a unique professional development opportunity led by LaGuardia Community College expert faculty and trainer from the College & Career Pathways Institute (CCPI).

The core of this training is the 4 hour workshop (offered on 2 different dates and in 2 different locations). Workshop attendees who wish to receive further guidance and resources are invited to participate in the optional Virtual Community of Practice, ongoing through April. Those who wish to develop a sample lesson for feedback and coaching from the trainers may also participate in a 1-hour phone coaching session.

Workshop participants who participate in the optional Virtual Community of Practice, coaching call, and webinars and meet requirements for completion are eligible for 10 Professional Development Points (PDP).

    Upon completion of this professional development activity/course, you will be able to:

  • Develop your capacity to address the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education
  • Provide classroom-tested lesson plans and teaching materials from LaGuardia’s Bridge to College and Careers Program
  • Improve your understanding of contextualized career-focused concepts and approaches and how they can be applied to basic skills curriculum
