This is the second video in the series Creating Robust ELA Unit Plans Using the SABES Template. SABES recommends that you view the videos in numerical order to see how Lauren's conceptualization of the unit evolved over time. Earlier videos provide needed context for later videos.
In VIDEO 2, you will learn how Lauren Twardy, an ABE teacher with Middlesex Community College, approached the section of the Unit Outcome/Culminating Assessment section of the SABES ELA Unit Plan template (link opens the ELA Curriculum Templates and Resources page).
Lauren discusses the following in the video:

- Does the culminating assessment reflect real-life/authentic adult tasks, engaging learners in problem solving, inquiry, and critical thinking?
- Are students likely to find the culminating assessment relevant to their life and goals?
- Are tasks worth the time involved?
