Elzora Watkins is a passionate educator, trainer, and speaker with over 33 years of experience supporting learners and educators—especially in Adult Basic Education (ABE). She currently serves as the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment at Academy of Hope Adult Public Charter School, where she leads instructional strategy, professional learning, and curriculum design across adult education programs. Her work centers on helping ABE teachers create safe, student-centered classrooms where adults can rebuild confidence, engage in meaningful mathematical discourse, and develop the academic and life skills needed for long-term success.
Known for her engaging, hands-on approach to professional development, Elzora blends growth mindset strategies with mindfulness and energy psychology to reduce anxiety and increase persistence for both teachers and students. She is a National Board Certified Teacher (2006, renewed 2016), a Certified John Maxwell Team Speaker, Trainer, Coach, and a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach. She holds degrees from Pennsylvania State University (BA) and Johns Hopkins University (MEd) and is currently pursuing her doctorate at Morgan State University, where her research focuses on mindset, teacher beliefs, and discourse in ABE math classrooms. Elzora brings energy, clarity, and deep respect for the work of ABE educators—supporting them in building learning environments where strong instruction, student voice, and joy thrive together.
